Mumbai Airport T1 Airlines May Relocate to Navi Mumbai or Halt Services from October 25

Mumbai Airport T1 Airlines May Relocate to Navi Mumbai or Halt Services from October 25

Airlines operating from Terminal 1 at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport in Mumbai may relocate operations to Navi Mumbai or temporarily suspend services starting October 25. The move comes as airport operator Mumbai International Airport Ltd (MIAL) prepares for the complete demolition and reconstruction of the facility.

Demolition work at Terminal 1 is scheduled to commence in January 2027. Following the reconstruction phase, the newly developed terminal is expected to be commissioned in 2029-30.

MIAL stated that the comprehensive redevelopment project is being carried out in line with the tariff order issued by the Airports Economic Regulatory Authority of India (AERA).

The demolition of Terminal 1 had originally been planned for mid-2025. However, the project was deferred at the time because the airlines operating from the terminal had no alternative facility available to accommodate their flights.

Under the updated schedule, airlines currently stationed at Terminal 1 must now either transition their flight operations to the facility in Navi Mumbai or temporarily pause services to allow the multi-year rebuilding project to proceed.
