Mumbai Cha Lambodar Unveils Three-Trunk Trishund Ganapati Idol for Ganeshotsav

Mumbai Cha Lambodar has unveiled a rare Trishund Ganapati idol featuring three trunks for this year's Ganeshotsav celebrations in Mumbai. The idol was introduced following the city's first Maha-Aagman Sohala of 2026 on August 15, when prominent mandals began welcoming their murtis ahead of Ganesh Chaturthi.

Created by sculptor Aniket Shewale, the 2026 murti portrays Lord Ganesha standing on a stone with four arms, including one hand holding a lotus. The focal point of the visual design is the depiction of three trunks rather than the traditional single trunk.

Derived from Sanskrit, the term "Trishund" signifies three trunks and holds multiple layers of symbolism in Hindu tradition. The form is associated with the Trinity of Brahma, Vishnu, and Shiva, while also representing the past, present, and future, as well as the three gunas, or fundamental qualities of nature.

While uncommon in contemporary pandals, the three-trunk iconography has historical roots in Maharashtra, most notably at the historic Trishund Ganapati Temple in Pune, which features detailed wall carvings of deities and divine figures.

The unveiling follows Mumbai Cha Lambodar's 2025 theme, when the mandal presented an Ardhanari Ganesha idol blending masculine and feminine divine attributes.
