Mumbai Court Frames Charges in Saif Ali Khan Bandra Residence Attack Case

A Mumbai court on Friday formally framed charges against Mohammad Shariful Islam, a Bangladeshi national accused of attacking actor Saif Ali Khan at his residence in Bandra in January last year.

The order marks a major procedural milestone in the legal proceedings surrounding the incident, clearing the path for the accused to stand trial over the alleged assault and associated offences.

Additional Sessions Judge G P Deshmukh framed the charges after Islam appeared before the court in connection with the case. During the court proceedings, Islam entered a plea of not guilty to the charges leveled against him.

With the formal framing of charges concluded, the case now advances to the full trial stage. The prosecution will subsequently be required to present its witnesses, submit evidence, and argue its case before the court to substantiate the allegations against Islam.

The proceedings stem from an incident in January last year, when Islam allegedly entered Saif Ali Khan's Bandra residence and carried out an attack involving a stabbing.

Following the accused's decision to contest the allegations, the sessions court will schedule the examination of prosecution witnesses as the trial formally gets underway.
