Mumbai Crime Branch Arrests Man for Printing Fake Amul Pouches in Vasai East
The Mumbai Crime Branch has arrested a 65-year-old man from Telangana for allegedly operating a printing unit in Vasai East that produced millions of counterfeit milk pouches for adulteration gangs. The accused, identified as Ramulu Guruvaryya Bodupalli, was traced and taken into custody following a recent breakthrough during a police raid in Dahisar.
The investigation began a few days ago when Crime Branch officers raided a premises in Dahisar and seized a large quantity of adulterated milk that was being sold under the names of reputed brands Amul and Gokul. Police arrested three individuals at the scene: Lingaya Bhikshamaya Ganta, 42, Saidulu Yadaya Jangili, 33, and Yadaya Chandraya Batulla, 33.
During interrogation, the arrested trio revealed details about the supplier providing them with the fake packaging material. Tracking these leads, the Crime Branch traced Bodupalli to Telangana and arrested him. Investigators found that he had set up a printing unit at Babubhai Shahani Compound, located opposite Laxmi Industries near Waliv Phata in Vasai East, where counterfeit Amul pouches were being manufactured.
Preliminary investigations revealed that Bodupalli allegedly supplied the fake packaging to milk adulteration gangs for Rs 2.50 per pouch. Police stated that he had been supplying these counterfeit materials to various gangs since the Covid-19 pandemic period.
Investigators suspect that the facility printed and supplied between 30,000 and 50,000 fake pouches every month. Between 2021 and July 2026, Bodupalli allegedly printed and sold approximately 20 lakh counterfeit milk pouches.
During the raid on the Vasai East facility, the Crime Branch seized machinery worth approximately Rs 10 lakh that was allegedly used to manufacture the fake packaging. Authorities suspect the counterfeit pouches were used to pass off adulterated milk as genuine products from reputed dairy brands.
The police action was conducted under the guidance of DCP (D-1) Navnath Dhawale by Senior Police Inspector Sandeep Yede-Patil of Unit 12 and his team. Investigators are continuing their probe to uncover the wider network involved in the racket and identify other milk adulterators who purchased counterfeit pouches from Bodupalli.
