Mumbai Crime Branch Arrests Man Posing As Doctor For 28 Years In Juhu

The Mumbai Crime Branch on Sunday arrested a 50-year-old man in the Juhu area for allegedly posing as a medical doctor for the past 28 years. The accused, identified as Dr Dharmendra Kumar, allegedly ran medical camps, treated patients, and developed contacts within Bollywood while using forged identity documents.
The long-standing impersonation came to light after the Mumbai Crime Branch busted a wider racket involved in various fraudulent activities. As part of the investigation, the suspect, Kumar, was called in for questioning by Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crime) Raj Tilak Roushan.
During the interrogation, police officers discovered that Kumar had allegedly impersonated a medical professional, created fake identity documents, and opened accounts in various banks. In collusion with other arrested associates, Kumar allegedly managed to embezzle a sum of money through corporate social responsibility (CSR) funds over the last three years.
Kumar’s arrest was carried out based on information received from an earlier arrested accused, 52-year-old Mohammad Gaus Ibrahim Khatib, who also used the alias Dr Raj Khatib. Khatib had been arrested previously in a cheating case.
In that separate case, a businessman from Gujarat had lodged a formal complaint against Khatib. The complainant alleged that Khatib, who posed as a Deputy Commissioner of Police in the Mumbai Police, a Jaipur businessman, and an "IPS officer," had cheated him of Rs 16 lakh. Khatib had reportedly promised the businessman that he would recover money owed to him by a builder.
DCP Roushan stated that multiple First Information Reports (FIRs) have been registered against the racket. The arrest of Kumar has exposed a long-standing medical impersonator and dismantled a wider fraudulent network involved in forged identity documents, cheating cases, and CSR fund embezzlement.
