Mumbai Crosses 95% of Annual Average Rainfall as Santacruz Logs 2,223 mm

Despite earlier predictions of below-average rainfall this season, Mumbai has recorded 95.87% of its average annual rainfall with more than a month still remaining in the monsoon season. Weather figures recorded at the Santacruz observatory show the city accumulated 2,223.3 mm of rainfall up to August 29, against its annual average of 2,391 mm.

On the corresponding date last year, the Santacruz observatory had logged 103% of its annual rainfall.

Alongside the seasonal totals, water levels across the seven lakes supplying drinking water to Mumbai reached 95.95% of their total capacity as of Saturday morning. Total useful water storage in the reservoirs stood at 13.88 lakh million litres against the total capacity of 14.47 lakh million litres.

Over the past week, Mumbai and the wider Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR) witnessed light to moderate spells of rain. Sunday saw partly cloudy and humid weather conditions persisting across the area.

According to the India Meteorological Department forecast, the region is expected to continue experiencing light to moderate showers through the week.

The local weather forecast for Mumbai city and its suburbs for the next 48 hours indicates partly cloudy skies with occasional spells of light to moderate rain and the possibility of occasional gusty winds. Maximum temperatures are expected to hover around 32°C, while minimum temperatures will remain near 26°C.
