Mumbai Customs Arrests Two Directors for Exporting Controlled Substance Without NOC

The customs department in Mumbai has arrested two company directors for allegedly attempting to export a controlled substance to the Czech Republic without the required regulatory clearance.
The arrests were made after authorities intercepted an export consignment that lacked a mandatory No Objection Certificate (NOC) from narcotics control authorities.
The arrested individuals have been identified as Venkat Shinde, the director of pharmaceutical company Veeprho Laboratories Private Limited, and Chandrashekhar Sriram Chodankar, the director of customs brokerage firm Rocraft Shipping and Logistics Pvt Ltd.
According to officials, the export consignment was found to contain phenylacetic acid and its salts. This chemical is classified as a controlled substance under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (Regulation of Controlled Substances) Order, 2013.
Under the provisions of the 2013 Order, any export of such controlled substances requires a mandatory No Objection Certificate from the narcotics authorities. The customs department initiated the arrests after confirming that the necessary NOC had not been obtained for this specific shipment.
