Mumbai Doctor Dr Prashant Rajput Creates SOP to Protect Farmers From Kidney Disease

A Mumbai-based nephrologist, Dr. Prashant Rajput, has launched a medical initiative to protect agricultural workers from chronic kidney disease linked to toxic pesticide exposure. On 28 June, 2026, Dr. Rajput highlighted his ongoing efforts to establish a Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) designed to help farmers preserve their health and prevent the onset of severe kidney ailments.
According to Dr. Rajput, farmers represent a high-risk group when it comes to Chronic Kidney Diseases of uncertain or unknown etiology, which is medically classified as CKDu. While traditional risk factors like low hydration remain a major concern for outdoor workers, Dr. Rajput stated that frequently sprayed and often overlooked agrochemicals are heavily responsible for the rising rates of kidney damage.
The initiative specifically targets farming communities because many of these individuals cannot afford expensive medical treatments once chronic kidney disease develops. Rather than focusing solely on treating the symptoms of patients who arrive at his clinic, Dr. Rajput chose to look beyond his immediate patient circle to find the root cause of the widespread health issue.
To address this environmental health crisis, Dr. Rajput is building a specialized SOP to guide farmers on safe practices and mitigate the toxic effects of chemical exposure. Additionally, the Mumbai doctor has been organizing and conducting dedicated awareness camps to directly educate farmers about the severe health risks associated with the daily handling and spraying of pesticides.
Through these awareness camps and the implementation of the health preservation guidelines, Dr. Rajput aims to eliminate the preventable factors contributing to kidney damage in the agricultural sector. The project represents a preventative approach to healthcare, offering a vital resource to a vulnerable population that lacks the financial means to seek costly long-term medical interventions.
