Mumbai Lake Levels Cross 90 Per Cent Capacity With Three Reservoirs Full

Water levels across the seven reservoirs supplying drinking water to Mumbai reached 90.96 per cent of their total live storage capacity as of 6 am on Friday, August 14, according to data from the Hydraulic Engineer's Department at the Bhandup Master Control Centre.

The lakes collectively held 13,16,578 million litres of water following consistent monsoon inflows.

Among the seven reservoirs, three lakes—Vihar, Tulsi, and Modak Sagar—remained completely full, operating at 100 per cent capacity. In contrast, Upper Vaitarna recorded the lowest storage level among the network at 82.32 per cent.

The current total water stock exceeds the level recorded during the corresponding period last year, when the city's reservoirs held 12,93,607 million litres, or 89.38 per cent of total capacity.

However, the current storage remains lower than the levels recorded during the same period in 2024. In that year, the seven lakes had accumulated 13,43,397 million litres of water, which accounted for 92.82 per cent of the total live storage capacity.

The seven interconnected lakes provide the entire drinking water supply for the city of Mumbai throughout the year.
