Mumbai Lake Levels Reach 95.53 Per Cent With 13.82 Lakh Million Litres in Stock

The total water stock in the seven reservoirs supplying water to Mumbai increased to 95.53 per cent as of 6 am on Monday, according to data from the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation's Hydraulic Engineer's Department.

The lake levels rose from 95.22 per cent recorded a day earlier, providing further relief amid the ongoing monsoon season. The seven lakes collectively hold 13,82,624 million litres (ML) of water against their total useful storage capacity of 14,47,363 ML.

Among the major reservoirs, Modak Sagar continues to remain at 100 per cent of its useful storage capacity, holding 1,28,925 ML of water. Upper Vaitarna recorded 89.32 per cent of its capacity, with a stock of 2,02,796 ML.

The catchment areas of several reservoirs witnessed rainfall over the past 24 hours. Upper Vaitarna, Modak Sagar, and Middle Vaitarna each recorded 12 mm of rainfall. Minor fluctuations in lake levels were observed, with Middle Vaitarna registering a rise of 0.25 metres, while Tulsi recorded a marginal decline of 0.02 metres.

Meanwhile, the Bhandup Complex recorded 5 mm of rainfall on Monday, taking its cumulative seasonal rainfall total to 2,694 mm.

Several key reservoirs, including Modak Sagar, Tansa, Vehar, and Tulsi, continue to remain in overflow after touching their respective overflow marks earlier in the monsoon season.

The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation monitors water levels and rainfall across the seven supply reservoirs on a daily basis. The system comprises Tansa, Modak Sagar, Middle Vaitarna, Upper Vaitarna, Bhatsa, Vehar, and Tulsi. With the collective water stock crossing the 95 per cent mark, the city's reservoirs are positioned to meet Mumbai's water requirements in the coming months.
