Mumbai Mayor Ritu Tawde Inspects BMC Headquarters Canteen After Reopening

Mumbai Mayor Ritu Tawde and Education Committee Chairperson Rajeshree Shirwadkar conducted a joint inspection of the main canteen at the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation headquarters to review cleanliness, food quality, and hygiene standards, an official statement said on Thursday.

The inspection came days after the civic headquarters canteen was reopened following enforcement action by the Maharashtra Food and Drug Administration over hygiene concerns.

According to officials, the assessment focused on several critical sections of the facility, including the cooking kitchen, food storage areas, and the general dining space. The facility is regularly used by municipal staff as well as visiting members of the public.

During the visit, Mayor Tawde emphasised that food safety rules and regulations apply equally to both public and private food establishments across the board.
