Mumbai Metro One Starts Procuring 22 Coaches to Expand Blue Line Trains

Mumbai Metro One Starts Procuring 22 Coaches to Expand Blue Line Trains

Mumbai Metro One Private Limited has initiated the procurement of 22 new coaches to convert its existing four-car trains into six-car formations along the Versova-Andheri-Ghatkopar Blue Line corridor in Andheri, moving to ease heavy rush-hour crowding on the route.

The proposed rolling stock expansion is planned for the city's oldest operational Metro corridor. By adding two cars to each existing formation, the operator aims to increase overall passenger capacity by more than 50 per cent across the network.

The deployment of the additional coaches remains tied to internal financing processes. According to officials, the procurement, commissioning, and eventual rollout of the 22 coaches are subject to MMOPL's ongoing financial restructuring and the availability of necessary funds.

Project planners have targeted an accelerated delivery schedule to introduce the longer trains into service. However, securing timely financial backing remains essential to expediting the process and placing the expanded trainsets into commercial operation along the line.
