Mumbai Metro One to reduce peak headway on Andheri route from August 10

Mumbai Metro One will introduce a new mixed-loop operating pattern on August 10, 2026, across the Versova-Andheri-Ghatkopar corridor. The operational change aims to increase train frequency and expand carrying capacity during evening peak hours, particularly along the heavily travelled route segment connecting Andheri and Ghatkopar.

Under the revised operating schedule, train services will alternate between short and full loops. One train will operate on a short loop running exclusively between Ghatkopar and Andheri, followed immediately by the subsequent train running on the regular full loop between Ghatkopar and Versova.

The implementation of this short-loop service will reduce train headway during peak hours on the section between Andheri and Ghatkopar. The interval between consecutive trains will drop from 3 minutes and 20 seconds to 3 minutes, helping to streamline commuter travel through the station.

The operator confirmed that the addition of the mixed-loop pattern will expand the line's carrying capacity by approximately 28,000 commuters during peak periods.

According to Mumbai Metro One, the shift forms part of its ongoing efforts to optimise train operations and make better use of the corridor's existing infrastructure.
