Mumbai Monorail reopening delayed as MMRDA plans extra safety checks

Mumbai Monorail services along the Chembur–Sant Gadge Maharaj Chowk corridor are set to undergo an additional safety inspection by the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) before the tracks reopen to commuters.

The elevated corridor has remained shut for nearly a year. While the Monorail has already completed required safety tests and secured clearance from the Commissioner of Metro Rail Safety (CMRS), MMRDA has chosen to conduct further assessments before restarting operations.

The additional checks come as officials examine structural gaps observed at certain portions of the elevated structure. The authority is assessing the situation to ensure all necessary precautions are addressed.

According to officials, services on the corridor are likely to resume only after the additional inspection is finalized and all precautionary measures are completed.
