Mumbai MUHS Mistakenly Hands Monday Exam Paper to PG Homeopathy Students

On Friday, a major examination blunder occurred at the Maharashtra University of Health Sciences (MUHS) in Mumbai when first-year postgraduate homeopathy students appearing for their semester-end examinations were mistakenly handed a question paper scheduled for the following Monday. The mix-up affected students specialising in Materia Medica during their scheduled session.

The students, who were supposed to be tested on the Fundamentals of Homeopathy Materia Medica, were instead given the question paper for the Fundamentals of Clinical Medicine in Homeopathy Materia Medica, which was not due to be administered until Monday.

According to those familiar with the incident, the mistake came to light after the question papers had already been distributed to the students in the exam hall. The incident has raised serious questions over the confidentiality of the university's exam process, as well as the efficacy of the systems in place for the handling, sorting, and distribution of exam papers.

Materia Medica is a specialised postgraduate field of study focused on the detailed examination of homoeopathic medicines, their sources, characteristic symptom profiles, therapeutic indications, and selection for individual patients.

Dr. S S Kadu, the controller of examinations at the Maharashtra University of Health Sciences, addressed the error and explained how the wrong paper was distributed. Dr. Kadu stated that a moderator pushed the wrong paper through the university's software system.

As soon as university officials realised the mistake, they acted to rectify the situation. According to Dr. Kadu, the university sent the correct paper for the Fundamentals of Homeopathy Materia Medica within minutes to the affected students.

To address the compromise of Monday's exam paper, which students had already seen, the university will prepare and distribute a new replacement paper. Dr. Kadu confirmed that on Monday, the university will send another paper of the Fundamentals of Clinical Medicine in Homeopathy Materia Medica for the scheduled test.
