Mumbai online searches for drinking water and tankers surge amid summer crisis

During the peak summer of 2026, Mumbai residents turned to online platforms in massive numbers to secure alternative water sources amid a deepening water crisis. A report released on July 1, 2026, revealed a sharp rise in online searches for both drinking water and water tanker services across the city, highlighting the severity of the seasonal shortage.
The data, compiled by the local search engine Justdial, compared search trends in Mumbai between March-April 2026 and May-June 2026. According to the report, online searches for drinking water in the city surged by 94.57 per cent during this period, indicating a major spike in daily household demand as temperatures rose.
In addition to drinking water, Mumbai residents actively sought out bulk water solutions. Searches for water tanker services on the platform jumped by 84.63 per cent. This significant increase in tanker searches directly reflects a growing demand for alternative water sources among citizens struggling with municipal supply issues.
The Justdial report also analyzed search trends specifically between May 2026 and June 2026. Based on these comparisons, Mumbai emerged as the strongest growth market in the entire country for water-related service searches, outperforming all other regions in India during the summer.
The sharp upward trend in these digital queries underscores how the city's residents responded to the deepening water crisis by leveraging local search engines to find immediate, alternative solutions for their water needs during the dry summer months.
