Mumbai Police Arrest 10 in Rs 16 Lakh College Admission Fraud Case

Mumbai Police have arrested 10 people in connection with a college admission fraud syndicate that allegedly duped students by promising admissions to top colleges across the city, Deputy Commissioner of Police Datta Nalawade stated on Monday.
The action followed a complaint filed at a police station after a student was allegedly defrauded of Rs 16 lakh on the pretext of securing a seat in an engineering college.
According to DCP Nalawade, an investigation revealed that a well-organised group operated the admission scam. The accused ran paid advertisements on social media platforms and reached out directly to students who expressed interest in getting college admissions.
To convince prospective victims, the accused took students to the campuses of various private universities, assuring them that admissions could be arranged through NRI or management quotas.
Following the investigation, police arrested 10 members of the group and seized approximately 22 mobile phones alongside other materials. The total value of the seized articles is estimated at around Rs 1.35 crore.
Nalawade noted that the investigation remains underway. Police are examining bank account transactions, tracking cash movements, and determining the full extent of victims caught in the scheme as the probe progresses.
