Mumbai Police Arrest Two EduVio Directors in MBBS Admission Fraud

On Wednesday, the Mumbai police's Crime Branch Unit 10 arrested two directors of a Hyderabad-based educational firm for allegedly running an MBBS admission racket that defrauded several parents, including a resident of Kandivli who lost Rs 18.58 lakh.
The suspects, Aditya Kumar Arogonda and Arvind Rao of EduVio Learning Solution Pvt Ltd, were remanded in police custody by a local court. According to the police, the duo had previously been arrested by Hyderabad and Pune police in similar cheating cases.
The alleged fraud came to light after Irshad Jambharkar, a garage owner from Ratnagiri, approached Mumbai police commissioner Deven Bharti during a public grievance hearing. A case was registered and subsequently transferred to the Crime Branch.
Investigators revealed that EduVio lured medical aspirants through social media advertisements on platforms like Instagram, promising confirmed MBBS seats across India under the management quota. The firm allegedly promised refunds if the admissions did not go through. Investigators suspect the accused collected between Rs 5 lakh and Rs 40 lakh from families and issued forged allotment letters.
In one instance, Sayyed Khan, a resident of Kandivli, contacted the firm after responding to an Instagram advertisement for NEET counselling. He initially paid Rs 50,000 and later transferred additional amounts totalling Rs 18.58 lakh after being assured his daughter would get a medical college seat. The admission was never secured, and the money was not returned.
In another case, Jambharkar saw an EduVio advertisement on Instagram in September 2025 while searching for admission options for his daughter, a NEET candidate. He paid Rs 13.94 lakh and was later given an allotment letter for a medical college in Jalna. However, the admission did not materialise, and he did not receive a refund.
A Crime Branch officer stated that the duo and other wanted accomplices have similarly cheated many aspiring MBBS candidates, with six to seven parents having approached the police so far.
The police have also registered a case for cheating, breach of trust, and common intention against other named individuals, including Venkatarao Kusume, Krishna Patil, Ronit Pawade, Pradeep Nair, and Vidya Patil.
