Mumbai Police Book Chembur Shop Owner for Selling Banned Pakistani Beauty Cream

The Mumbai Police Crime Branch Unit-6 has registered a criminal case against a shop owner in Chembur for allegedly stocking and selling a banned cosmetic product manufactured in Pakistan. The action was taken following a raid conducted at a local store on the evening of June 23.
The targeted establishment, named "Tony Land," is located at Kamalkunj on Central Avenue Road in Chembur. On Wednesday, the city police officially filed the case against the shop owner after seizing the restricted items.
According to police officials, officers attached to the Crime Branch Unit-6 received specific information on Tuesday regarding the illegal sale of the Pakistani cosmetic product at the Chembur shop. Acting on this tip-off, the police team organized a raid for the evening of June 23.
During the operation, the police deployed a decoy customer who entered the "Tony Land" shop and successfully purchased the cosmetic product. Immediately after the purchase, police officers entered the shop premises to conduct an inspection of the product and the remaining stock.
The product seized during the raid was identified as "Goree Beauty Cream with Lycopene." The packaging of the cosmetic cream clearly displayed "Made in Pakistan" and indicated that it was manufactured in Lahore, Pakistan.
The police stated that stocking and selling this product violates a Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT) notification dated May 2, 2025. This government notification strictly prohibits the import of all goods originating from Pakistan.
Following the raid, the city crime branch booked the shop owner and took over the investigation. Officers are currently probing the case to identify the specific smuggling channels used to bring the banned Pakistani cosmetic product into India.
Additionally, the police revealed that while they are taking action against physical brick-and-mortar stores, some online websites have also been found selling the same banned beauty cream.
