Mumbai Railway Police Take Charge of 38 Accident Hotspots to Curb Track Crossing

The Mumbai Railway Police have taken charge of 38 accident hotspots across the Mumbai suburban railway network as part of stepped-up measures to curb mishaps involving commuters crossing railway tracks, authorities announced on Wednesday.

According to an official statement, 27 of the identified vulnerable locations fall under the Central Railway division, while the remaining 11 hotspots are situated within the Western Railway division.

The initiative aims to tackle the recurring issue of commuters crossing railway tracks directly instead of using designated pedestrian crossings. By taking direct responsibility for these 38 high-risk zones, the Railway Police intend to prevent fatal accidents and enforce safer transit habits across the city's suburban train network.

Alongside increased monitoring and police presence at these specific locations, authorities have also suggested infrastructural interventions. The proposed measures include the construction of additional foot overbridges, pedestrian subways, and road overbridges (ROBs) to facilitate safer and easier movement for railway passengers navigating the stations and track sections across both the Central and Western lines.
