Mumbai Receives First Monsoon Showers in Ghatkopar, Worli, and Lower Parel

On Sunday morning, June 21, 2026, parts of Mumbai, including Ghatkopar, Chembur, Mankhurd, Worli, and Lower Parel, received light to moderate rainfall, marking the onset of the delayed southwest monsoon. The sudden showers brought much-needed relief to local residents from the prevailing heat and humidity that had been affecting the city.

According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), weather conditions have now become favourable for the further advancement of the southwest monsoon over other parts of Maharashtra. The monsoon had initially reached the South Konkan region earlier in the month, but its progress across the state had remained stalled due to unfavourable weather conditions.

The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) monitored the precipitation levels across various localities during the morning hours. The civic body's data showed that the Ramabai Municipal School in Ghatkopar recorded the highest rainfall of 24 mm between 6 a.m. and 7 a.m. on Sunday.

Other areas also recorded notable rainfall during the same one-hour window. The Chembur Fire Station registered 20 mm of rain, followed closely by the Mankhurd Fire Station, which recorded 16 mm of rainfall between 6 a.m. and 7 a.m.

The wet weather continued into the subsequent hour, from 7 a.m. to 8 a.m., with coastal and central parts of the city seeing increased activity. During this period, the Worli Seaface Municipal School and the Savitribai Phule Municipal School both recorded 25 mm of rainfall, marking the highest measurements in the city during that hour.

In Lower Parel, the G-South ward office received 21 mm of rainfall during the same 7 a.m. to 8 a.m. window. Meanwhile, the Worli Fire Station recorded 17 mm of rain as the monsoon showers spread across the residential and commercial localities of the city.

Despite the onset of the monsoon and the moderate rainfall recorded in these areas, municipal officials confirmed that no major waterlogging was reported. Additionally, there were no reports of any rain-related incidents or disruptions during this initial period of showers.
