Mumbai Resident Anuj Rawat Sends Prepaid Zomato Meals to Delhi Protesters
A Mumbai resident has drawn widespread appreciation online after arranging free, prepaid meals for protesters gathered at Jantar Mantar in Delhi. The individual, identified as Anuj Rawat from Mumbai, Maharashtra, ordered the food from hundreds of kilometres away to support those at the demonstration site.
The initiative became public after a video went viral on social media, showing a Zomato delivery partner delivering a large food order at the protest venue. In the viral clip, the delivery executive is seen standing in the rain while carrying a large package of food ordered online.
According to the delivery agent, Rawat placed the order and explicitly requested that the food be delivered to protesters who needed meals. Because the order was already paid for, people at the Jantar Mantar protest site were able to receive the food at no cost.
The delivery executive’s presence at Jantar Mantar surprised many people, as the delivery was not meant for an individual customer but was instead distributed to the gathered protesters.
The gesture quickly gained traction on social media, with users praising Rawat for extending support from Mumbai. One circulating post stated, "This is the India we refuse to lose. People sitting miles away are ordering food through Zomato and Swiggy, asking delivery partners to feed hungry protesters at Jantar Mantar. That is the Idea of India."
Other social media users highlighted how individuals can contribute to causes they believe in through simple acts of kindness. One user commented on the political speculations surrounding protests, writing, "And they say that it is funded by Soros. Salute to the guy who paid this order."
Some users tagged the food delivery platform online, asking if they could offer discounts or official features for such initiatives. One user tagged Zomato, writing, "@zomato shouldn't you guys do some things here. Maybe the biggest discounts for the area?" Another user suggested that Zomato and Swiggy open options for users to pay for meals for students at Jantar Mantar directly.
