Mumbai Sees Light Rain and Gusty Winds as IMD Predicts Subdued Monsoon Activity

Mumbai experienced overcast skies, light rainfall, and gusty winds on Wednesday morning as monsoon activity continued across the city and its surrounding suburbs. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecast another day of light to moderate rain and thundershowers, confirming that no rain alerts have been issued for Mumbai this week.

According to the weather department, Mumbai and its suburban regions are expected to remain generally cloudy throughout the day, with light to moderate showers likely at several locations. While widespread heavy downpours are not anticipated, isolated pockets across the city may experience moderate to heavy spells accompanied by strong winds.

Wind speeds are projected to blow between 40 kmph and 50 kmph, with gusts potentially accelerating to 50 to 60 kmph during brief intense spells of rain. Temperatures in the city are expected to reach a maximum of around 32°C, following a recorded minimum temperature of 29°C on Wednesday morning.

Monsoon patterns across Mumbai and the wider Mumbai Metropolitan Region showed significant variation over recent weeks. Following several moderate to heavy spells during the early days of August, overall rainfall activity steadily declined toward the end of the month, giving way to occasional light to moderate showers. Weather officials expect rainfall to remain largely subdued through September, although intermittent showers will persist under ongoing monsoon conditions.

Commuters and residents traveling across the city have been advised to exercise caution during sudden spells of heavy rain, especially in low-lying areas that remain vulnerable to waterlogging.

Alongside the rainy conditions, Mumbai recorded clean air on Wednesday morning. Official monitoring data placed the city's overall Air Quality Index (AQI) at 18, keeping it firmly within the 'Good' category. Under standard classification benchmarks, AQI values between 0 and 50 represent good air quality.
