Mumbai social worker files complaint in US after American citizen tears Indian flag

A Mumbai-based social worker has filed a formal complaint with law enforcement in the United States after an American citizen allegedly tore and desecrated the Indian national flag. Muhammad Jameel Merchant, who is based in the city, sent a letter of complaint to the Frisco Police Department in Texas, USA, to initiate action.

The complaint was directed to the Police Records division of the Frisco Police Department. In his letter, Merchant stated that he had viewed a verified video clip that showed a man, identified as United States citizen Clayton Walker, tearing the Indian tricolour flag.

According to Merchant, Walker is a habitual offender who has shown proactive hostile behaviour. The complaint alleges that Walker has used abusive slang, engaged in hate speech, and committed acts that are capable of inciting hostility.

The public desecration of the national symbol sparked strong reactions from the complainant. Merchant stated in his letter that, as a proud and nationalist Indian, it caused him deep personal hurt to see the Indian national flag being torn and desecrated publicly in the video.

The complaint was officially reported on June 18, 2026, following the circulation of the video clip. No official statement has been released yet by the Frisco Police Department regarding what actions will be taken against Clayton Walker following the submission of the complaint by the Mumbai resident.
