Mumbai Suburban Network to Get 238 New AC EMU Rakes Starting 2027

Indian Railways has prioritised the manufacture of 238 air-conditioned Electric Multiple Unit (AC EMU) rakes for Mumbai's suburban railway network, according to an official statement released on Thursday.

The first batch of trainsets is scheduled to be supplied starting from 2027.

Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw said that the 238 AC EMU rakes will be manufactured across three railway production units.

The decision is aimed at ensuring that adequate rolling stock is readily available alongside the ongoing commissioning of infrastructure under the Mumbai Urban Transport Project (MUTP).
