Mumbai Taxi, Auto Fares to Rise from September 1 Following MMRTA Approval

Commuting by black-and-yellow taxis and autorickshaws across Mumbai and the wider Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR) is set to become more expensive starting September 1, following a fare revision approved by the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Transport Authority (MMRTA).

Under the newly approved rates, black-and-yellow taxi fares will increase by Rs 2 for the first 1.5 kilometres, taking the minimum fare to Rs 33.

Autorickshaw commuters will also see higher travel costs. The minimum fare for autorickshaws will rise by Rs 1 for the first 1.5 kilometres, increasing the base charge from Rs 26 to Rs 27 across the region.

According to officials, the MMRTA's decision was based on the formula recommended by the four-member Khatua panel, which outlines provisions for revising the fare structure of black-and-yellow taxis and autorickshaws in Maharashtra.
