Mumbai Wakes to Rain and Gusty Winds as IMD Predicts More Showers
Mumbai woke up to light rain, overcast skies, and gusty winds on Tuesday morning as active monsoon conditions continued across the metropolis and its surrounding suburbs. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecast another day of intermittent rainfall and thundershowers, though no formal weather alert has been issued for the city this week.
According to the IMD, the skies over Mumbai and its suburban regions are expected to remain generally cloudy through the day. Light to moderate rainfall is anticipated at several locations across the city. Although widespread heavy downpours are not expected, meteorologists noted that isolated areas could experience moderate to heavy showers during brief, intense spells.
The weather department also indicated that gusty winds would accompany the rain throughout Tuesday. Wind speeds are projected to hover between 40 kmph and 50 kmph, with gusts potentially accelerating to between 50 kmph and 60 kmph during heavier spells of rain. The maximum temperature across the city is likely to hover around 32°C, following a recorded minimum temperature of 29°C on Tuesday morning.
Mumbai and the broader Mumbai Metropolitan Region have recorded multiple spells of moderate to heavy rainfall since the beginning of August. Despite the steady monsoon activity, the IMD has not placed the city under any specific rain warnings for the ongoing week. Forecasters expect light to moderate rainfall to persist in the coming days, bringing typical monsoon conditions that include persistent cloud cover, intermittent showers, and occasional gusty conditions.
The continuous rainfall has also maintained clean atmospheric conditions across the city. Official environmental data recorded Mumbai's overall Air Quality Index (AQI) at 34 on Tuesday morning, placing it firmly in the 'Good' category. Under standard classification parameters, an AQI reading between 0 and 50 reflects clean air with minimal health risks for the general public.
With intermittent showers and strong winds expected to continue through the week, residents and daily commuters have been advised to exercise caution during intense rain spells, particularly when travelling through areas known to be prone to waterlogging.
