Mumbra Disability Rights Protest Put on Hold Until August 16

A protest by disabled residents in Mumbra, Thane district, over livelihood rights and access to authorised business spaces has been temporarily suspended until August 16, according to an official statement issued on Friday.

The demonstration focused on several key demands concerning the economic livelihoods of disabled individuals in the area, chief among them being the allocation of official spaces to operate their businesses.

Disability rights activists participating in the agitation have sought a concrete decision on numerous applications that remain pending regarding changes and relocations of business sites.

The protesters also raised concerns over alleged selective action by local authorities, calling for the equal and fair enforcement of rules governing commercial spaces and street vending.
