Nagpur Contractors Association Demands Clearance of ₹1,890 Crore in Unpaid State Dues

Nagpur Contractors Association president Subodh Sarode has appealed to the Maharashtra state government to urgently clear pending payments of approximately ₹1,890 crore for completed development works under the Public Works Circle in Nagpur, warning that unpaid dues have pushed contractors into severe financial distress.

In a letter addressed to Public Works Minister Shivendrasinhraje Bhosale, Sarode stated that repeated pleas for dues across various state government departments have been ignored. He highlighted that the failure to disburse funds has caused financial planning to collapse, leaving contractors unable to pay construction material suppliers, labour contractors, office staff, site engineers, supervisors, and bank loans.

Sarode claimed that five contractors across the state have ended their lives due to the mounting financial crisis. He cited the deaths by suicide of Sangli contractor Harshal Patil, Nagpur contractor Munna Verma, and Nanded district contractor Gajabhau Devkate, who died three days ago. He also noted that Wardha contractor Baba Zakir had attempted self-immolation.

According to the association, contractors throughout the Nagpur division are experiencing immense mental stress as liabilities accumulate. The association has sought immediate intervention from the state government to disburse the pending ₹1,890 crore under various budget heads and provide relief to contractors who have already completed infrastructure and development works.
