National Tricolour Hoisted at BMC Headquarters Near CSMT for 80th Independence Day

The National Tricolour was hoisted at the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) headquarters near Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT) at 7 AM on Saturday, August 15, as Mumbai marked the 80th Independence Day.

The ceremonial unfurling of the national flag took place at the historic civic building, bringing together civic officials, staff members, and dignitaries. Citizens gathered early in the morning to watch the flag rise against the backdrop of the surrounding UNESCO World Heritage area.

Leading up to the event, the administrative headquarters was illuminated in vibrant hues of saffron, white, and green. The ceremony honoured the country's journey since Independence and served as a tribute to the sacrifices of freedom fighters and the values that shaped the freedom struggle.

During the event, the civic body, which administers essential public services across the city, reaffirmed its commitment to serving Mumbai's residents.

Independence Day celebrations were held across the city, with government offices, civic institutions, and public spaces hosting flag-hoisting ceremonies and cultural programmes. Other notable observances included heritage displays at Shivaji Park and the Gateway of India.
