Navi Mumbai Metro Runs Uninterrupted After Landslide Near RBI Colony Station

Navi Mumbai Metro Line 1 services continued to operate without interruption after a tree and debris slid down near the RBI Colony Metro Station on Sunday morning. The incident, triggered by heavy rainfall and gusty winds, occurred around 8:30 AM on July 5 near the station in Navi Mumbai, but train operations remained completely unaffected.

The landslide occurred after the region received approximately 154 mm of rainfall accompanied by strong winds. A tree, along with a mass of stones and soil, slid down onto a fenced-off footpath along the road. Due to the existing safety barriers, no injuries or damage to public or private property were reported from the site.

Disaster management teams from the City and Industrial Development Corporation (CIDCO) and the Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation promptly arrived at the scene to clear the debris and secure the area. The Panvel City Municipal Corporation was also informed about the situation to coordinate safety efforts.

As a precautionary measure, the affected stretch of road was temporarily closed to vehicular traffic, and local transit was diverted while the cleanup operations were underway. A spokesperson for CIDCO stated that the footpath where the debris fell had already been barricaded and closed for pedestrians, ensuring there was no immediate threat to public safety.

To further secure the area during the ongoing extreme rainfall alert, authorities are installing GI sheet barricades. One adjoining lane of the road will remain closed to traffic as an additional safety precaution until weather conditions improve.

Despite the landslide, metro train services remained fully operational on Sunday and Monday. Commuters continued to use the RBI Colony Metro Station and other stations along the corridor without any disruption. Local authorities have advised citizens to avoid the restricted area around the station until the precautionary works are fully completed.
