Navi Mumbai Police Announce Palm Beach Road Traffic Curbs on August 15 and 16
Motorists travelling along Palm Beach Road between Belapur and Vashi will face traffic diversions on August 15 and 16 due to two scheduled public events, according to directives issued by the Navi Mumbai traffic police.
Authorities will divert vehicular movement onto a single carriageway during specified hours to accommodate an 8-kilometre human chain on Independence Day and a marathon the following morning.
On August 15, the carriageway heading from Belapur towards Vashi, Mumbai, and Thane will remain closed to all vehicles up to Moraj Circle from 1:00 am to 12:30 pm. The closure will facilitate an 8-km human chain and the collective singing of 'Vande Mataram', organised by the Sanpada-based Vande Mataram Pratishthan.
The programme itself is scheduled between 10:30 am and 11:30 am, with participants forming a human chain extending from Killa Junction, located outside the Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation headquarters, to Moraj Junction. Vehicles moving in both directions between Vashi and Belapur will share the opposite carriageway. Motorists have been advised to consider alternative routes, including the Uran Phata route and the Sion-Panvel Highway.
On August 16, similar traffic regulations will take effect from 1:00 am to 10:00 am for the City Health Run–2026 marathon, organised by a private media group. The Belapur-to-Vashi, Mumbai, and Thane carriageway will be closed beyond Moraj Circle, with traffic diverted to the opposite side. Additionally, the road linking Killa Junction in Belapur towards NRI Jetty along the DPS School side will be completely closed during the marathon.
Rahul Khade, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic), Navi Mumbai, stated that the curbs are temporary measures aimed at ensuring participant safety and regulating vehicular flow. He urged commuters to plan their travel in advance and budget extra time, particularly during early morning hours.
The restrictions will not apply to emergency and essential services, including police vehicles, fire brigade units, and ambulances. The regulatory orders have been issued under Sections 115, 116(1), 116(4), and 117 of the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988.
