Navi Mumbai Swimmer Anshuman Jhingran Sets Guinness Record in Oceans Seven
Navi Mumbai-based open-water swimmer Anshuman Jhingran has secured his second Guinness World Records title after being officially recognized as the youngest male to complete the Oceans Seven marathon swimming challenge. The swimmer, who trains at the Fr. Agnel Sports Centre in Vashi, accomplished the feat at the age of 21 years and 109 days.
Jhingran completed his seventh and final crossing, the Tsugaru Strait in Japan, on June 30, 2026. The milestone arrived exactly three years after he launched his multi-channel campaign with a crossing of the North Channel.
The Oceans Seven, considered the open-water swimming counterpart to mountaineering's Seven Summits, requires athletes to navigate seven of the world's most demanding sea channels against cold water, strong tides, changing weather, and prolonged physical strain.
Jhingran's journey began on July 17, 2023, when he crossed the North Channel in 11 hours, 28 minutes, and 52 seconds. That swim earned him his first Guinness World Records title as the youngest male to complete the crossing at 18 years and 126 days old.
Over the next three years, he completed the Catalina Channel in August 2023, the Cook Strait in January 2024, the Molokai/Ka'iwi Channel in October 2024, the Strait of Gibraltar in May 2025, the English Channel in August 2025, and finally the Tsugaru Strait in June 2026.
Throughout his campaign, Jhingran trained in Vashi under coach Gokul Kamath, undertaking years of conditioning and open-water preparation to handle extreme marine conditions.
“Receiving my first Guinness World Records title after crossing the North Channel at 18 was an unforgettable moment, but it also became the beginning of a much bigger dream,” Jhingran said. “The Oceans Seven has shaped the last three years of my life. Every channel brought a different challenge and taught me something about resilience, patience and determination.”
He credited his coach, family, pilots, and support personnel for helping him complete the international marathon swimming circuit.
