Navi Mumbai Traffic Police Launch Adopt A School Road Safety Initiative In Nhava Sheva

The Navi Mumbai Traffic Police has launched a new road safety initiative called 'Adopt a School 2026–27' to educate young students, holding its first session on Monday, July 13, 2026, at the New English School in Nhava, within the Nhava Sheva area. The program aims to establish long-term, continuous road safety education through monthly visits by designated traffic officers to local schools.

Under the initiative, every school within the jurisdiction of a traffic branch is assigned to a specific traffic police officer. This officer will conduct monthly visits to teach students about traffic rules, safe road behavior, and accident prevention.

For the inaugural session at New English School in Nhava, Police Havaldar Sanjay Bote conducted the class under the guidance of Senior Police Inspector Vaishali Galande. Bote educated the students on critical safety topics, including the proper use of zebra crossings, understanding traffic signals, the importance of wearing helmets and seat belts, and general safety guidelines for pedestrians and cyclists.

The Nhava Sheva Traffic Branch has already adopted 16 schools under this programme. The traffic police plan to roll out similar sessions in the remaining adopted schools in a phased manner. The designated officers will return to each school once a month to reinforce safety messages and address any queries the students might have.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic) Rahul Khade explained that the programme is designed to move past temporary, one-time awareness campaigns. By fostering continuous interaction, the department hopes to encourage students to become responsible road users and active road safety ambassadors within their own families and local communities.

Traffic officials stated that instilling traffic discipline in children at an early age is key to reducing road accidents over the long term. Through the campaign's core message of "Safe Roads, Safe Life," the police department hopes to build a widespread culture of responsible road use. Officials also noted their hope that this initiative will eventually serve as a model for schools across the wider Raigad district.
