Navy Sailor, Wife, Two Children Found Dead in Colaba Residence

A 30-year-old Indian Navy sailor, his wife, and their two young children were found dead at their residence in Navy Nagar, Colaba. The bodies were recovered from their apartment in the high-security cantonment area on Saturday, prompting an immediate investigation by the police.
The deceased sailor has been identified as Puranmal Shambhulal Mehra. His wife, 28-year-old Oma Puranmal Mehra, their three-year-old son Yash Puranmal Mehra, and their two-month-old infant were found dead on the bed inside the home.
Preliminary findings by investigators suggest that the sailor died by suicide after hanging himself. The deaths of his wife and the two children are suspected to have been caused by poisoning.
Following the discovery, local police arrived at the scene and secured the premises. All four bodies were subsequently shifted to JJ Hospital in Mumbai, where post-mortem examinations were conducted to ascertain the exact cause of death.
Deputy Commissioner of Police Manish Kalwaniya stated that a prima facie investigation indicated the sailor had died by hanging, while poisoning appeared to be the cause of death for his wife and children. He added that post-mortem examinations were underway and that further investigation was in progress to determine the full sequence of events.
The Indian Navy issued an official statement regarding the incident: "In an unfortunate incident at Navy Nagar, Colaba, an Indian Navy sailor along with his wife and two children were found dead at their residence on August 15, 2026.
