NCPA Staff To Receive Rs 7,250 Monthly Hike Under New Four-Year Wage Pact
The BJP-backed Akhil Bharatiya Kamgar Karmachari Sangh, under the leadership of Ravindra Chavan, has signed a four-year wage settlement with the National Centre for the Performing Arts (NCPA) in Mumbai. The agreement grants employees a monthly salary increase of Rs 7,250 along with an annual bonus of Rs 50,000.
The settlement, signed on Thursday, will take effect from January 1, 2025, and remain in force through December 31, 2028. BJP Maharashtra president and union president Ravindra Chavan noted that this marks the third wage agreement executed between the NCPA management and the workers’ union, calling it a major achievement for the organisation.
According to the union, the Mumbai Labour Union previously served as the majority workers’ body at the NCPA. However, following organisational recruitment drives, the Akhil Bharatiya Kamgar Karmachari Sangh absorbed its membership. The union stated that subsequent legal proceedings before the Industrial Court established it as the largest and sole recognised workers’ union at the premier arts institution.
Chavan stated that the agreement reflects the union’s organisational strength and sustained efforts to secure better wages and benefits for its workforce. He added that the wage hike stands as a victory for workers' unity and their struggle for legitimate demands, paving the way for improved service conditions and welfare across the organisation.
The signing ceremony was attended on behalf of the NCPA management by NCPA president Santook, director Freddy Talathi, technical director Kale, and general manager of human resources Vincent D’Souza.
Representatives attending on behalf of the workers' union included general secretary Suhas Mate, vice-president Prashant Vartak, alongside other office-bearers and union members.
