Nearly 50,000 Fans Attend Fourth Edition of Anime India Mumbai

Nearly 50,000 fans gathered in Mumbai recently for the fourth edition of Anime India Mumbai, celebrating anime culture through cosplay, gaming, music, and fan art.

The convention brought enthusiasts together to compare detailed costumes, exchange series recommendations, and connect with fellow community members. Organisers noted that the event highlighted how anime has expanded from a niche interest into mainstream youth culture across the country.

Cosplay formed a central part of the convention, allowing attendees to step into the roles of their favourite characters. Attendee Rithvik Sharma explained that dressing up provided an immersive connection to the stories fans follow, noting that for a few hours, participants are not merely watching a narrative but actively becoming part of it.

Student Pratham Jha also attended in costume, choosing to dress as Spider-Man. Jha shared that Spider-Man was the hero he grew up with, adding that wearing the costume and interacting with other fans made the convention experience particularly meaningful.

Anime India co-founder Mishaal Wanvari addressed the expanding community, stating that there are now more than 100 million anime fans across India.

According to Wanvari, the fandom experienced a significant surge in interest following the COVID-19 pandemic. He noted that young audiences have played a major role in driving this growth, leading to an increasing desire among fans to meet, interact, and celebrate the medium together in person.
