New Daily CSMT-Sawantwadi Express to Connect Thane Directly with Konkan

Indian Railways is set to launch a new direct daily Express train service connecting Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT) and Sawantwadi Road, creating a direct link between Thane and the Konkan railway network. The inaugural service will be flagged off from CSMT at 12:20 PM by Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, before arriving at Thane station.

To mark the introduction of the new service, a reception organized by local residents and Thane MP Naresh Mhaske will welcome the train upon its arrival at Thane station. The launch follows sustained efforts and a long-standing demand led by local public representatives, including Thane MP Naresh Mhaske and Kalyan MP Dr. Shrikant Shinde.

The service will operate on a daily schedule under train numbers 15087 (CSMT to Sawantwadi Road) and 15088 (Sawantwadi Road to CSMT). The train will allow passengers in Thane to access the coastal Konkan belt directly from their local station, eliminating the need to commute into South Mumbai terminals to board outbound Konkan trains.

Covering a total distance of 510 kilometers, the route includes 22 scheduled halts across key transit hubs and Konkan belt stations. Key transit halts include Dadar, Thane, Panvel, Pen, and Roha.

Further along the route, the train will stop at Mangaon, Veer, Khed, Chiplun, Savarda, Aravali Road, Sangameshwar Road, Ratnagiri, Adavali, Vilavade, Rajapur Road, Vaibhavwadi Road, Nandgaon Road, Kankavli, Sindhudurg, Kudal, and Sawantwadi Road.

The service received formal approval from Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw under the Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav initiative. The rollout comes ahead of the Ganeshotsav festival, aiming to assist thousands of Konkan native families residing in Thane with regular transit for holiday travel, regional commerce, and tourism throughout the year.
