New Ghatkopar Station Metro Entry and Elevated Deck to Open by End of July 2026

A new Metro entry-exit and a wide elevated deck at the congested Ghatkopar railway station in Mumbai are scheduled to open by the end of July 2026. The new infrastructure aims to significantly decongest the station's existing central foot overbridge and provide commuters with a direct alternative entry-exit route.
Currently, there is no direct alternative route leading from the railway area to the jam-packed main entry from the footbridge at Ghatkopar. This lack of alternative options has led to severe daily congestion for passengers transferring between the local trains and the metro line. The opening of the new entry-exit point is expected to be a huge help for these daily commuters.
The under-construction elevated deck is located specifically at the Mumbai Metro end of the Ghatkopar railway station. It has been designed as a wide platform to accommodate the heavy flow of passengers. The project is nearing completion and is slated to become operational by the end of the month.
The realization of this project comes after nearly seven years of sustained follow-ups by the newspaper Mid-Day, which pushed for measures to decongest the busy station. The effort to establish an alternative route has finally borne fruit, promising a safer and more efficient commute for the thousands who use the station daily.
Once open, the new Metro entry-exit and the wide elevated deck will allow commuters to bypass the heavily crowded central foot overbridge, offering a more direct and less congested path through the station.
