New Tilak Marg Municipal School Complex Inaugurated in Ghatkopar East
The newly constructed Tilak Marg Municipal School Building Complex in Ghatkopar East was inaugurated on August 16, 2026, by Mumbai Mayor Ritu Tawde and local MLA Parag Shah. The facility, developed under the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation's N Ward in Ward 132, replaces a previous dilapidated structure at the site.
The ground-plus-six-storey complex currently accommodates 789 students across four municipal schools that were shifted into the building following the start of the new academic year. The institutions operating on the premises include Tilak Marg Hindi School with 197 students, Tilak Marg Marathi School with 128 students, Kamrajnagar Hindi School with 337 students, and Kamrajnagar Marathi School with 127 students. A new English-medium preschool is also being started at the complex.
The building includes 38 classrooms, 25 small rooms, an auditorium, and 14 additional facility rooms. Modern amenities provided at the complex include a computer laboratory, science laboratory, astronomy laboratory, library, psychological therapy laboratory, and virtual classroom facilities.
Speaking at the event, Mayor Tawde highlighted the modern infrastructure provided to civic schools and noted that efforts are underway to organise student visits to institutions such as the Indian Space Research Organisation. She stated that 27 essential utility items are provided free of cost to municipal school students and pointed to learning initiatives such as 'Science Monday' and 'Math Thursday'. Tawde and Deputy Commissioner (Education) Dr Prachi Jambhekar both attended civic schools during their student years.
During the ceremony, MLA Parag Shah announced a personal contribution of Rs 5 lakh to support various utilities and requirements of the school complex. Shah commended the building's design and emphasized the importance of maintaining hygiene, cleanliness, student safety, and educational quality across the premises.
The inauguration was attended by Corporators Rakhi Jadhav, Archana Bhalerao, and Dharmesh Giri, Education Committee Member Yojana Thokale, Deputy Commissioner Dr Prachi Jambhekar, Education Officer Sujata Khare, Assistant Education Officer Sayali Surve, and N Ward Assistant Commissioner Jaydeep More, along with local parents, students, and residents.
