NGO rescues Assam woman who travelled to Bandra to seek help from Salman Khan

A 55-year-old woman from Assam who travelled to Mumbai to seek financial help from actor Salman Khan was rescued by NGO volunteers at Carter Road in Bandra. The woman, identified as Jyotsna Begum, had become disoriented and lost after arriving in the city alone with very little money.

Begum was found in a disturbed state by volunteers from the Social and Evangelical Association for Love (SEAL). The rescue took place during the organisation's annual monsoon rescue drive, which is conducted to assist homeless destitutes. At the time she was found, Begum was nervously asking passersby to guide her to the residence of the Hindi film actor.

According to pastor K M Philip, the founder of SEAL, volunteers noticed Begum wandering in the area. "We observed how Begum was asking for Khan’s address at Bandra, as she was certain that he would help her financially," Philip said. "After coming to Mumbai from Assam, she became disoriented and hence lost her way in the city."

During counselling sessions at the SEAL Ashram, Begum, who lives near Guwahati, shared her struggles with social workers. She explained that her family is living in poverty and that she has to take care of her children on her own.

A social activist associated with the rescue noted that Begum decided to make the journey after reading a news article about the actor's charitable actions. "Her only ray of hope was Khan, since she had read a news article that he had financially helped a poor person," the activist said. "However, despite not having any contacts in Mumbai, she set forth on her solo journey, with hardly any money, and she only knew Khan lives somewhere in Bandra."

Following her rescue, Begum was taken to the SEAL shelter home, where she was provided with medical treatment and counselling. "We medically treated Begum at our shelter home until she was fully stable," Philip said. Once her condition stabilized, she was successfully reunited with her family in Assam.
