NMMC Approves Civic Projects Worth Over Rs 2.7 Crore Across Navi Mumbai

On June 26, the Standing Committee of the Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) approved civic infrastructure and public amenity projects worth over Rs 2.7 crore to upgrade parks, sewerage, drainage, footpaths, and sports facilities across Vashi, Nerul, CBD Belapur, and Ghansoli.

The meeting was chaired by Standing Committee Chairman Ashok Bhauso Patil. The proposals, which were submitted by Municipal Commissioner Dr Kailas Shinde, received unanimous approval from the committee. The projects aim to improve public infrastructure, address sewage blockages, enhance green spaces, and improve drainage and pedestrian facilities.

In Vashi, the committee cleared two park development projects to enhance green spaces and recreational facilities. These include the development of the Aai-Baba Garden in Vashi Sector 7 at a cost of Rs 25.90 lakh, and the Gyan Kalash Garden in Vashi Sector 6 for Rs 30.59 lakh.

For the Nerul division, the committee sanctioned Rs 63.05 lakh to replace damaged and undersized sewerage pipelines and repair collapsed chambers. This work will target the condominium area of Nerul Sector 8, where residents had raised repeated complaints regarding sewage blockages and poor drainage.

In CBD Belapur, the committee approved Rs 29.26 lakh for repair works. This funding will be used to repair the compound wall of the Rajiv Gandhi Sports Complex in CBD Belapur Sector 3.

To address drainage and pedestrian issues in Ghansoli, the committee cleared two separate projects. The first project involves an expenditure of Rs 89.62 lakh to construct a 371-metre drain and a 356-metre-long, four-metre-wide footpath in Shantinagar. The second project allocates Rs 31.12 lakh to build a 130-metre drain in Balaram Wadi, aiming to prevent waterlogging caused by the lack of a proper drainage system.

"The approved works will strengthen civic infrastructure and improve essential public amenities across Navi Mumbai," said Municipal Commissioner Dr Kailas Shinde. He added that the administration is committed to completing these projects in a timely manner to enhance the quality of life for citizens.
