NMMC Cuts Water and Sewerage to Dangerous Amoli Society Building in Sanpada

The Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) on Tuesday disconnected the water and sewerage services to the Amoli Co-operative Housing Society at Plot No. 28, Sector 30 in Sanpada, Navi Mumbai. The civic action was taken to enforce the immediate evacuation of the building, which has been classified as a highly dangerous C-1 category structure that is unfit for human habitation.

According to civic officials, the building's electricity supply is also scheduled to be disconnected in the coming days as part of the ongoing evacuation process.

The Amoli Co-operative Housing Society building was first declared a C-1 structure by the municipal committee during the 2019-20 period. Although the NMMC had issued multiple notices directing the residents to vacate the premises immediately, several flats in the building continued to be occupied by residents.

The disconnection of essential services was executed in accordance with directions from the Bombay High Court under Writ Petition No. 1135 of 2014. These judicial directives mandate that civic authorities must cut off essential services, including water, electricity, and gas supplies, to ensure the evacuation of structures that have been officially declared highly dangerous.

An NMMC official explained that the building continued to be occupied despite repeated notices, which posed a serious risk to the lives of the residents. The official added that the disconnection of these essential services was necessary to ensure compliance with the High Court's directives and to facilitate the immediate evacuation of the unsafe structure.

The enforcement drive was carried out under the directions of the Municipal Commissioner and under the guidance of Additional Municipal Commissioner Rahul Gethe and Deputy Commissioner (Encroachment) Sanjay Shinde.

The on-site operation was supervised by Turbhe Assistant Commissioner Sagar More. Junior Engineer Vinod Ambre and officials from the Water Supply and Sewerage Department also participated in executing the disconnection drive.
