NMMC records highest ever Q1 property tax collection of Rs 434.02 crore

The Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) recorded its highest-ever first-quarter property tax collection of Rs 434.02 crore between April 1 and June 30, 2026. This record-breaking milestone in Navi Mumbai was driven by increased taxpayer participation and a major shift towards digital payment methods, with the Ghansoli administrative division leading the collections by recording Rs 80 crore.
According to civic officials, a total of 1,43,329 property owners paid their taxes during the first quarter of the 2026-27 financial year. This marks a significant increase from the corresponding period last year, when 98,478 taxpayers contributed Rs 372.42 crore.
The civic body also successfully recovered Rs 23.67 crore from 15,250 property owners who had defaulted on their tax payments in previous years. Furthermore, 56,973 taxpayers who had paid their taxes in the later quarters last year chose to clear their dues in the first quarter this year, contributing over Rs 165.74 crore.
Digital transactions emerged as the primary driver of the collections. Online payment methods, including UPI, QR codes, net banking, and debit or credit cards, accounted for Rs 280.71 crore (72.2 per cent of the collection) from 1,03,473 taxpayers. Another Rs 144.93 crore was received through bank transactions, while offline payments accounted for just Rs 8.36 crore.
The NMMC's outreach efforts, which included social media awareness campaigns and personalized payment links sent via SMS and WhatsApp, significantly boosted the numbers. Approximately 57,397 taxpayers utilized these personalized links to pay nearly Rs 58 crore, representing 40.63 per cent of all participating taxpayers.
In terms of property categories, industrial properties contributed the largest share of revenue at 35.79 per cent. Residential properties followed at 31.92 per cent, commercial properties at 22.26 per cent, and mixed-use or other properties made up the remaining 10.03 per cent.
Mayor Sujata Patil congratulated the taxpayers, stating that the record collection reflects citizens' trust in the municipal corporation and their commitment to the city's development. Municipal Commissioner Dr. Kailas Shinde added that the extensive use of technology and data-driven planning played a crucial role in achieving the milestone.
