No Case Filed After BMC Chief Ashwini Bhide Impersonated on WhatsApp

The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has not filed a legal case following reports that Mumbai Municipal Commissioner Ashwini Bhide's WhatsApp account was compromised on a Saturday afternoon.
The development comes two days after the civic chief took to social media to state that her messaging account had been briefly compromised. The issue came to light when BMC officials received requests on WhatsApp asking for money.
Senior municipal officials have since indicated that the incident may not involve a direct hack of Bhide's personal device. Officials suspect that an imposter account, created using her photograph, was used to contact civic personnel and solicit funds.
Because her personal mobile phone may not have been breached, the civic administration decided against lodging a formal police complaint regarding the matter.
