One dead and seven injured as BEST bus crashes into divider in Mankhurd

A 65-year-old man was killed and seven other individuals sustained injuries on Monday morning when a Brihanmumbai Electricity Supply and Transport (BEST) bus crashed directly into a roadside divider in Mumbai’s Mankhurd area. The serious traffic accident occurred on July 20, 2026, at approximately 9:14 am on the busy Sion Panvel Highway, right opposite the Vishwakarma Hospital.
The deceased victim of the crash has been identified as Bhaskar Raosaheb Pande, aged 65. Following the collision on the highway, Pande was rushed to Rajawadi Hospital, where Dr. Heero, the Medical Officer, confirmed that he was pronounced dead on arrival.
According to official statements from the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), at least 10 injured people in total were taken to Rajawadi Hospital and Govandi Shatabdi Hospital for medical care. Dr. Heero confirmed that five of these injured victims are currently undergoing active medical treatment at Rajawadi Hospital.
The five injured passengers who are currently admitted and receiving treatment have been identified by hospital authorities as Shivmangal Maity, 42, Ganesh Patel, 24, ata Waghela, 43, Rajesh Varugamina, 35, and Ankita Jadhav, 22.
The staff operating the BEST Bus 501 also required medical attention. The bus driver, identified as Banvari Shriram Prasad Sharma, 51, and the conductor, identified as Vaibhav Waghmare, 41, both underwent treatment at the hospital. Authorities have confirmed that both the driver and the conductor are now in stable condition.
This Mankhurd crash marks the second major accident involving a BEST bus in the city of Mumbai within a 20-day period. In the earlier incident, which occurred near Veer Kotwal Garden near Plaza Cinema in Dadar West, a bus driver lost control of the vehicle. That previous Dadar West accident also resulted in the death of one person and left three others injured.
