Opposition Demands Action on Mastermind in Navi Mumbai SIR Form Photocopying Case

Opposition leaders from the Shiv Sena (UBT) and Congress have demanded that the Kharghar police identify and book the main conspirators behind the unauthorized photocopying of 3,400 SIR electoral forms in Navi Mumbai.

The demand follows the registration of an FIR on Friday against Suraj Patil, a member of the BJP nodal youth committee, who was caught photocopying the official electoral documents on Thursday.

Following the discovery, administrative authorities suspended five booth-level officers, including three data entry operators employed by a private company, and served them with show-cause notices for their involvement in the breach.

Sena (UBT) leader Balesh Bhojane called on law enforcement to expand the scope of the investigation. Bhojane stated that the police must ascertain under whose instructions and through what means Patil managed to secure electoral forms belonging to eleven separate polling stations. He also pointed out that a police constable had proceeded on medical leave during the episode, raising doubts over the handling of the case.

Congress corporator Haresh Keni confirmed that a formal representation had been submitted to the Kharghar police demanding immediate action against senior political figures linked to the incident. Keni alleged that a breach of such scale could not have taken place without the involvement of BJP party leaders.

A dual investigation is presently underway to establish how the forms were leaked. The case is being investigated by the Kharghar police alongside a dedicated two-member inquiry committee appointed by the Panvel City Municipal Corporation.
