Opposition Slams Mumbai BJP Chief Ameet Satam Over Smiling Video On Monsoon Deaths

Opposition parties in Mumbai have launched a sharp attack against Mumbai BJP chief and MLA Ameet Satam after a video surfaced showing him smiling while discussing two tragic monsoon-related deaths. The incident occurred near the steps of the Vidhan Bhavan in Mumbai, drawing widespread condemnation from various political rivals.

The controversy centers around two fatal incidents that took place over a two-day period during Mumbai's first monsoon rains. One death was caused by a falling tree, while the other occurred when a man fell into an open manhole.

In the viral video, Satam is seen standing alongside Nationalist Congress Party (Sharadchandra Pawar) MLA Jayant Patil near the Vidhan Bhavan steps. Satam is heard saying, "Yesterday it was because of a tree, today it is a manhole..." while smiling.

The footage triggered intense political backlash, with opposition leaders accusing the BJP of showing extreme insensitivity and shamelessness regarding the loss of innocent lives. Shiv Sena (UBT) MP Sanjay Raut shared a screenshot of the video showing Satam laughing on the social media platform X. Raut criticized the ruling party, calling them "the world’s biggest shameless and murderous political party that grins with bared teeth at the deaths of innocent people."

Other opposition voices also condemned the BJP leadership, pointing out that the very first spell of rain in Mumbai had resulted in waterlogging, falling trees, and fatal accidents. They accused the BJP's leaders of being "deadened" and refusing to stop their politics even when faced with tragedy. Critics argued that the laughter on Satam's face during his statement made it seem as if nothing serious had happened.

In his defense, Satam claimed that the video was being taken out of context. He stated that there was a deliberate attempt to misrepresent the actual meaning of his exchange with Patil, labeling the entire controversy as nothing but "news creation."
