Over 3 Lakh Mumbai Buildings Lag on Mandatory Fire Compliance, Fire Brigade Data Shows

More than 3 lakh buildings across Mumbai are currently not up to date with mandatory fire safety compliance, according to official Mumbai Fire Brigade (MFB) data.

Records reviewed from the fire department show that over the last two quarters, only approximately 2 per cent of the city's buildings completed the required self-renewal process for their fire compliance certificates.

The widespread lapse in routine certification highlights ongoing safety concerns across residential and commercial structures throughout the city.

The compliance shortfall comes amid recent incidents in the city, including a blaze at the Shanta Bhuvan building located on Baptista Road in Vile Parle West, where firefighting operations were carried out to bring the fire under control.
