Over 30,000 Runners Register for 32nd Thane Mayor's Varsha Marathon

Final preparations are underway across Thane for the 32nd Thane Mayor's Varsha Marathon scheduled to take place on Sunday, August 30. Over 30,000 runners have registered for the event, according to Thane Municipal Corporation (TMC) Commissioner Saurabh Rao.

The civic body and the Thane Police have mobilized joint teams to oversee traffic arrangements, manage monsoon conditions, and ensure the safety of all participants throughout the race.

Civic departments are completing route maintenance along the marathon track. The work includes repairing potholes, trimming trees, removing encroachments, and carrying out street sanitation. A final inspection of the entire route is scheduled for Saturday, August 29.

Administrative reviews have also been conducted to finalize logistics for parking, barricading, drinking water stations, medical aid posts, mobile toilets, and volunteer deployment. Specific safety measures are in place for participating school students, organized in coordination with local schools and bus operators.

To accommodate the event, the Thane Police have announced temporary traffic diversions from 8:00 PM on Saturday, August 29, until 2:00 PM on Sunday, August 30. Authorities have advised motorists of potential congestion along alternate routes during this period.

Key traffic restrictions and diversions include the closure of entry toward the TMC Headquarters at Nitin Company Junction, with vehicles being re-routed via Teen Hath Naka and Hariniwas Circle. Access toward the TMC Headquarters from Almeida Signal is also restricted, with traffic diverted through Vandana ST Depot and Khopat.

Additionally, vehicular movement from Kamgar Nagar Naka toward Yashodhan Nagar has been blocked and redirected through Indira Nagar Naka to facilitate the smooth running of the marathon.
